Windows XP vs Windows 7 the real story

Since I have installed Windows 7 on my machine, I am trying to compare it with Windows XP. This is because I made a direct move from Windows XP to Windows 7. Despite of the features I felt were newer or better, I found Microsoft’s comparisons here.

As per this Microsoft OS comparison chart, it seems Windows XP is not having couple of features as compared to Windows 7. But that is not the complete truth !

So the intent of this blog post is to reveal the real truth “Is Windows XP really lacking those Windows 7 features

The table below is covering only those points from Microsoft’s comparison table, that I feel are not 100% true.

Feature Microsoft’s View Is this worth mention ? (our view)
Find files and programs instantly Windows Search (Instantly locate and open any file on your PC, from documents to e-mail messages to songs, right from the Start menu just by typing a word or two.) NOT 100% correct, Windows Search is available for Windows XP also. Only ease provided by Windows 7 is one can locate the stuff by directly typing in start menu, windows xp requires one more step. Apart from that there are well known desktop search apps like Google Desktop and Launchy.
Easily share files, photos, and music among multiple PCs at home HomeGroup (Easily share the photos, music, and files on each of the PCs running Windows 7 on your home network. It's especially handy when you want to share a printer.) NOT 100% true, In windows xp you can setup Home or Office Networks. But its made easier and secure in Windows 7.
Connect to any available wireless network in just three clicks On the go? Find and connect to Wi-Fi, mobile broadband, VPN, or dial-up networks with just a couple clicks. NOT 100% true in case of WIFI Networks, they are two click away in Windows XP too. Apart from that Dial up connections are no more used. Mobile broadband mostly requires you to install 3rdparty drivers.
Built-in protection against spyware and other malicious software Windows Defender helps you keep spyware or other unwanted software from attacking your PC. And now, it's even easier to use. Not 100% true again. Windows Defender is available as free download for Win XP users. Yes Windows7 gives this built-in.
Designed for faster sleep and resume Windows 7 is designed to help your PC sleep and resume more quickly. It's easier to put your PC away and to get back to what you were doing when you're ready. Windows 7 is designed to reconnect to your wireless network faster so your PC will be ready to use in seconds Again not XP is not completely a failure here. Windows XP is a good performer here. If your WIFI connections are marked “Automatic” Windows XP will reconnect in seconds upon wakeup.
Improved power management for longer battery life With laptop PCs, how much you can get out of them often depends on how long your battery lasts. Windows 7 helps you keep going longer between charges.

Not 100% true, the power options for laptop PCs are almost the same. Checkout the screenshots yourself :

So I feel bad for Microsoft to do such comparisons of Windows XP. This attempt to overshadow Windows 7 over Windows XP is bad, Windows XP is still most successful and widely used windows operating system.
